For iOS 9 users who do not have cars or maybe want to go somewhere by using public translation, then this application was made for you. Transit in Maps is the only applications you need to go to get all the public routes you’ll need.
How to use transit directions in Maps in iOS 9
First, for your information, Transit directions are only available in select cities. For example, Los Angeles is a very popular city, but it does not currently have support in Transit. So, this app will say, “Transit directions are not available between these two locations.” if the transit app did not support the location you choose. Then you can choose, View Routing Apps to find other options that may reveal a public route. (See the image below)
Here are some steps, how to use transit directions in iOS 9
First, open up Maps on your iDevice. Let’s use New York City as the example for this tutorial. With Maps open, put the locations you are leaving and arriving. Then tap Route. As example I am traveling from Times Square to Ellis Island Museum. (See the image below)
By default, the route will be shown as if you are driving. Tap the Transit tab on the top of the screen to see the possible public transit options.
Tap Start to begin your trip. It will be showed how they would for driving or walking directions. You can tap on the list icon in the bottom center, to view the upcoming steps or stations.
Each different segments of the trip have unique color on the Map. This unique color will help people recognize when to switch public transportation services.
Still not sure where to go? Go on the Map, use the 3D map and zoom to find entrances to subways or bus stops. Tap on the Info icon and select 3D map from the menu. This 3D will help ypu a lot to understand your surroundings . You can zoom and rotate the map to get more specific location or path.
Transit will make it a lot easier for you who want to get around some of the world’s most popular cities. Even though the supported list of cities is currently quite small and contains mostly major cities, like London, San Francisco, and Chicago, but Apple will continue to add cities to that list for sure.
